Advertising
We appreciate the individuals, local organizations, and area restaurants which take part in the cook off! None of this can happen without you! In the weeks leading up to the event we will be promoting the businesses, organizations, and restaurants that are competing on social media. We do this both to spread awareness about the event and to draw attention to the businesses and organizations taking part.
Entry Fees
Entry cost is $20 ($25 for restaurants). Restaurants who are willing to post a flyer advertising the event will be given a $5 discount on their entry fee. Entry fee can be paid online via paypal at https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/pitmannazarene, by mail to Pitman Church of the Nazarene P.O. Box 2, Pitman, NJ 08071, or in person to Pastor Shane.
What to Expect
Please plan to arrive on the day of the event, October 26th, no later than 3:40pm, which should allow sufficient time for you to set up prior to the event starting at 4pm. Every entry will be assigned a number which will coordinate with a location so that you will know where to set up. Numbers will be assigned and emailed to competitors prior to the event. Your assigned location will have a placard with your location number, your name or business/organization name, and the name of your chili or chowder.
Preparation
All entries must be prepared in advance and arrive ready to serve. Entries will be kept warm on chafing trays with sternos. We have a limited number of chafing trays/pans available, but if you have one that you could use it would be much appreciated. If you have one you can bring, or if you have extras you could lend to other entrants, please email Pastor Shane at PastorShaneRoss@gmail.com.
How Much Chili or Chowder to Make
Last year we had 8 businesses and 10 individuals competing, and about 90 people in attendance. This year is looking to be a larger event than last year. We will not have a way to estimate how many people will attend until shortly before the event, and even that number would not take into account any attendees who come without pre-registering. How much chili or chowder you bring is up to you. If you want to have someone from your business deliver a second pan part way through the event that is permissible.
Servers
If possible, please plan to have someone present at the event to serve your chili or chowder. If this presents a hardship for you, please let us know so that we can arrange to have a volunteer available to serve your entry. It should be noted that chilis and chowders served by someone who had a hand in making them tend to get more attention from voters as they know their recipe well and can engage with the people trying it.
Voting
On the day of the event people attending will taste and vote on their favorite entries. Each person attending will be given 4 different tickets, one in each of four different colors. Each color ticket will coordinate with one of the following categories: 1. Business/Organization Chili; 2. Business/Organization Chowder; 3. Individual Chili; 4. Individual Chowder. We will have 3oz sample cups for attendees to try each chili and chowder. Voting will end at 5:30pm
